Sensitive Skin 101 – Why Using a Dermalogica Cleanser Will Help Improve Your Skin

Cleansing Sensitive skin with Dermalogica

Cleansing Your Skin the Right Way with Dermalogica Cleansers

There Has Never Been a More Important Time to Use a Professional Cleanser Such as Dermalogica on Your Skin to Keep Sensitivity to a Minimum!

There seems to be more and more clients coming to the skin care centre showing signs of sensitivity on their skin. Sensitive skin in fact affects millions of people and that is why there are so many products on the market all claiming to help.

There are really four main types of sensitive skin: – acne, rosacea, burning and stinging and contact dermatitis along with allergies and irritants. It is not surprising that in some parts of the world air borne, pollutants are more prevalent and skin sensitivity is higher.

All sensitivity has one thing in common and that is inflammation but because sensitivity has different causes they need to be treated differently and by specific ingredients. Sometimes by just cleansing the skin incorrectly can be just enough to set the skin up for sensitivity. If the skin is stripped of its natural protective barrier it can become sensitised to any product that you apply.

Generally soap if it is not of the correct pH, can give your skin such as intense cleanse that your entire natural protective barrier disappears too. Using the correct cleanser is a very important first step in your skincare routine and this is where the product ingredients are really important.

The majority of foaming cleansers and soaps de-fat and remove oil from the skin. Fortunately Dermalogica have a fantastic foaming cleanser called special cleansing gel and this is made using an natural foaming ingredient called Quillaja Saponaris and this gently removes impurities and excess oils without over drying the skin but leaving a super clean surface.

Dermalogica also have another cleanser for those of us who enjoy using a more creamy cleanser and is fantastic for environmentally sensitised skin. Ultracalming Cleanser is an extremely gentle gel-cream cleanser that can be rinsed off or gently removed with tissue. Dermalogica Ultracalming cleanser can also be used to remove eye and lip makeup and leave no irritating residue and protects the skin’s natural lipid barrier.

If you have acne, inflammation and sensitivity you must treat the sensitivity first before addressing the acne as your skin could become so sensitised by using incorrect products that in the end your skin could flare up to anything you apply.

Salicylic Acid is a fabulous ingredient for acne prone skin as it stimulates natural exfoliation, helping to clear impacted follicles and minimise acne formation. Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash cleanser is a natural foaming cleanser that includes other ingredients that gently calm inflammation, clear skin and help prevent future breakouts.

Oily skin is a skin that has excess oil production and we can make this condition worse by stripping the skin of oils every time we cleanse, as the skin then thinks it needs to make even more oil to replace the oil that has been removed. When the skin is constantly stripped of oil and harsh products applied it can become sensitised too.

A far better way of cleansing oily skin is to use Dermalogica Dermal Clay Cleanser which has water soluble bentonite and kaolin clays with purifying botanical extracts and refreshing menthol to remove excess oils and refine the skin’s texture.

Dermal Clay Cleanser is a skin perfecting formula that provides deep cleansing for oily, congested skin and contains naturally astringent plant extracts that help prevent future breakouts.

So the next time you cleanse your skin check the ingredients that you are using and ensure you are using the correct ones for your skin condition.

Now You Can Sleep Off the Signs of Ageing with Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum

Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum is Finally Released in Australia

Overnight Repair Serum

Dermalogica's Overnight Repair Serum

It’s about time Dermalogica brought out a specific night-time treatment for the skin – and they have! It’s called Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum, but before I get into that, have you ever wondered why we need day and night products for our skin? Is it just another ploy to get us to buy more products and do we really want to put the extra effort in?

Well the truth is our skin not only changes with the seasons but also shows fluctuations during the 24 hour cycle and this is known as circadian rhythms. Whilst studies are still being carried out on circadian rhythms two of the most known rhythms are sebum excretion (oil output) and trans epidermal water loss (water lost through the skin).

It is a fact that our skin excretes the most oil at midday but our trans epidermal water loss is at its lowest. The temperature for our skin and the ph also fluctuates from day to night with the temperature peaking in the evening when the ph is the lowest.

So to summarise this, the studies indicate that skin excretes less sebum, loses more water, is hotter and more acidic during the night-time than during the day. Taking these factors into account it indicates that the skin is likely to be drier and perhaps more vulnerable to irritation at night and may explain why some people are more prone to night-time itch or flare-ups of inflammatory skin conditions.

The Skin Works Hard While We Sleep

It is also believed that the skin repairs itself more at night and that cell renewal is enhanced in the evening. Another important factor is that there is no UV light from the sun (although there is UV present in fluorescent light) and no extreme daytime temperatures or environmental pollutants.

Ideally all out makeup is removed at night and whilst we are sleeping we are not smoking, drinking alcohol or acutely stressed therefore it is a wonderful environment for our skin to catch up with the damage caused throughout the day.

Ta Dah! Dermalogica’s New Night Time Treatment Overnight Repair Serum is Born

All these conditions have been analysed and through this a brand new product from the Dermalogica range has been born – Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum. One of my main concerns would be the prevention of wrinkles and fine lines along with dehydration and I know from my experience in any skin clinic that this is the biggest concern for most people.

Around the age of fifty Hyaluronic acid that is found in the dermis of the skin really starts to decline and as Hyaluronic acid can hold a thousand time its weight in water it is easy to see how the skin will become more dehydrated resulting in fine lines and wrinkles.

Also around the age of fifty the skin elasticity starts to deteriorate along with collagen (the plumping in your skin) – it’s not good news!

When our skin becomes dehydrated it is more prone to sensitivity so it is definitely in our best interest to keep those moisture levels high. Overnight Repair Serum is a true treasure and anyone concerned with sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles would benefit from superb active ingredients including palmitoyl tripeptide-38 which stimulates two forms of collagen and hylauronic acid and alaria esculenta a brown seaweed that contains powerful antioxidants and vitamins A, B, C and E to nourish skin tissues.

You can check out the Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum Video Below

Dry, dehydrated skin benefits from the Argan Oil which is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids that restores the skins barrier and traps in moisture. Dull, lacklustre skin and hyper pigmentation is also addressed with rosehip seed oil rich in retinoic acid and vitamin C.

The results from overnight repair serum are nothing less than superb and my skin already is starting to see new life and is more plumped due to the newly increased hydration and people are already asking me what I am doing differently, which is always a good sign J.

I use the overnight serum on freshly cleansed clean skin, spritz with Dermalogica’s Antioxidant Hydramist and then apply four to five drops over my face and neck and then apply my moisturiser. If you prefer you can mix the Dermalogica Overnight Repair Serum into your moisturiser and then apply but I honestly feel you are better to apply the serum directly onto the skin.

An excellent night time skin care routine would be:-

The Dermalogica Age Smart Range:- Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser, Spritz with Antioxidant Hydramist, MAP-15 Regenerator (applied to where signs of ageing are prominent), Age Reversal Eye Complex, Overnight Repair Serum – four to five drops let it sink into the skin for one minute before applying Power Rich. Now apply Dermalogica Power Rich.

There are also acupressure points on the face, that can be stimulated when applying overnight repair serum to improve results even further which are easy to perform on yourself, plus I forgot to tell you that Overnight Repair Serum smells beautiful! Thanks to the rosehip oil.

I am sure you will enjoy using this latest high performance product and be as excited as I am by the results I am getting, it really is beauty whilst you sleep, Enjoy!

Dermalogica Skin Care – My Favourite Dermalogica Product To Use When Going For a Dirty Weekend

Dermalogica Skin Care – What I LOVE To Use When Going Away For The Weekend
SOS Dermalogica Skin Care
Dermalogica’s Sheer Tint Moisture Comes in Handy When Going Away

Dermalogica skin care products are wonderful but when you are going away for the weekend (and your like me :) ) you pack four of your favourite pairs of shoes, six outfits to choose from and enough make up to warrant it’s own case, hence not that much room for my dermalogica skin care.

Having travelled a lot lately, my dermalogica skin care products do weigh-a-ton and if I can save a few kilo’s and room in my case – I will (I am a serious shopper-holic). Anyway, I have recently fell back in love with Dermalogica’s Sheer Tint Moisture - Have you ever tried this day time moisturiser before? I tried it when it came out a few years ago, but I decided to give it another try and have re-discovered how wonderful this product is for when I go away for the odd weekend!

I am not saying use it when you go away, that is just the way I find works perfect for me – for ONE MAJOR REASON – I cannot be bothered to put all of my make up on! I like to chill out and relax so to speak when I am away with just my husband and the Sheer Tint Moisture in the medium is ideal. I find I take less products with me (hence it’s a three-in-one product), it gives me a natural looking coverage and has SPF15 coverage. The hydration is a little on the light side for my skin type (it’s oil-free), I use the hydrating booster underneath sometimes, the consistency is between active moist and skin smoothing cream (dermalogica’s other moisturisers) – That is why I use it occasionally, but if you have a combination skin type this would be perfect for you to use every day.

One of my pet hates is re-applying sunscreen throughout the day. To get effective sun protection throughout the day, you need to re-apply regularly. This can be hassle for anyone who wears a lot of make up and it’s hassle for me, but what I find to be great is dermalogica’s Sheer Tint Moisture, I apply it in the morning and I can re-apply straight over the top of it, during the day (every two hours!) I have been known to apply dermalogica’s Solar Booster over my mineral make up when I have been stuck, but I have to practise what I preach – Be Smart When it Comes to Sunscreen, Wear it and Re-Apply during the day.

A big plus for me is convenience, if you have a daughter in her teens and worried about her applying sunscreen when she’s out during the summer, get her this product, she will really like it and she can just apply it and reapply throughout the day, no dramas.

Let’s have a look at this dermalogica skin care product and see if it will benefit your skin.

Sheer Tint Moisture SPF15

This dermalogica moisturiser comes in three skin-normalising shades (light, medium, dark) and also untinted. Have a look at the picture to see the shades on my skin. The actual tint is from Iron Oxide Earth Minerals giving you a nice colour wash and increasing your skin’s radiance. There is absolutely no artificial colours in this product or any of the dermalogica skin care range. This moisturiser does NOT give you a heavy foundation look, I emphasize “wash of colour”. If you have clear skin, you will love it, if your skin is problem prone and you use alot of make up, you will need to apply foundation over the top.

Why Should You Use It?

If you are a busy-bee, take lots of trips, go to the beach often, play lots of sports – you will love it – for it’s ease of use. If you are a teenager it’s great (it’s oil-free) and will not cause you to break out. It’s a convenient way to hydrate protect and even out your skin.

What are the Ingredients in the Sheer Tint Moisture Range?

Besides the Iron oxides, this dermalogica skin care product uses chemical and physical sunscreens to protect against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. It also contains lots of antioxidants to protect the skin against free radicals such as walnut seed and olive fruit extract. In fact the olive fruit extract really gives you a high level of antioxidant protection.

This dermalogica moisturiser is not greasy, is light-weight and oil-free. It really does contain some fabulous ingredients that can hydrate your skin. There’s panthenol to maintain your hydration levels, and lots of humectants such as sorbitol, glycerin and urea (humectants bind water to your skin).

They have even included lactic acid and sodium lactate which are naturally found in your skin and these help to hydrate and condition your skin.

I really like how dermalogica added dimethicone into this moisturiser, not only does it make the moisturiser glide on nice to your skin but it’s brilliant at reinforcing the barrier properties of your skin, so your skin’s level of hydration is maintained  and stops moisture loss.

Dermalogica Skin Care Sheer Tint Moisture

Theres more to sheer tint moisture than meets the eye, you can see why it’s one of my picks for a weekend-wonder away (remember to pack a night time moisturiser!)

What do you think to dermalogica skin care and dermalogica’s sheer tint moisture? Tell me what you think?
