Firm, Firm, Firm Your Skin!

Dermalogica Age Smart MAP-15 Regenerator

Dermalogica Age Smart Map-15

Yes You Can Firm Your Skin With Dermalogica Map-15 Regenerator

There are not many products that claim to firm your skin and do but according to dermalogica there MAP-15 regenerator will stimulate your collagen to firm and brighten your skin. I think the MAP-15 Regenerator is a strange product there really is nothing quite like this out on the market. It’s a powder that is incredibly light-weight and when you apply it directly to your skin it turns into an emulsion that gently melts into your skin.

What does MAP-15 Stand For?

Dermalogica’s Age Smart MAP-15 means Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) this is a form of vitamin C which is an antioxidant that will protect your skin from free radicals and the damaging enzymes known as Matrix Metalloproteinase that is responsible for destroying your collagen supplies. With so many different forms of vitamin C on the market why would you want to use this? Well MAP is a stable for of vitamin C, so that means with every application you are guaranteed fresh “non-oxidised” vitamin C, which will straight away do it’s job of firming and brightening your skin while providing antioxidant protection and stopping the enzymes Matrix Metalloproteinase from breaking down your freshly made new collagen bundles!

MAP is a special form of vitamin C that is non-acidic making it great for sensitive skin types and not causing any dryness on your skin. The “15″ part of MAP-15 stands for the percentage of the product, there is 10% of vitamin C in this product and 5% of the other ingredients that work together to boost your collagen formation in your skin.

Dermalogica Age Smart

The dermalogica age smart line is designed to target the biochemical reactions that lead to skin aging. The biochemical reactions are Free Radicals, Collagen Dissolving Enzymes and Advanced Glycation End Products I am not going to go into these factors now, however what I want to point out to you is that Dermalogica’s Age Smart MAP-15 is designed to target these reactions. White Tea I think is a fantastic ingredient is in this product that not only protects you from free radical damage but is a wonderful antioxidant that inhibits the collagen dissolving enzymes (Matrix Metalloproteinase) and also inhibits Glycation – that is why I have started to drink White Tea daily, I actually prefer the taste to Green Tea and is a more powerful antioxidant. However drinking White Tea is not going to be enough to get it’s benefits to your skin, you still do need to apply good antioxidants topically to your skin to get the skin benefits.

Glucosamine is also a new wonderful super-ingredient of mine because it stimulates the formation of Hylauronic Acid in your skin (your natural moisturising factor) providing intense hydration to your skin but what is really great is it stimulates collagen regeneration and also protects your skin from advanced glycation end products (a damaging by-product of sugar and protein reactions in your skin).

This product so far, regenerates collagen, inhibits collagen-dissolving enzymes, stops glycation and provides wonderful antioxidant properties to your skin what else does it do? Well, it contains yeast extract and yeast extract is excellent for collagen formation and increasing the firmness in your skin, in fact I would go to say that this really does firm your skin and this would be one of the main reasons to use this, as it excellent – but strange!- but good!

How to Use Dermalogica Age Smart MAP-15 Regenerator

There is two ways to use this product you can use it as a spot treatment on any areas that need firming and the way to do this is cleanse your skin, spritz with antioxidant Hydramist and then apply  a small amount of the powder to your finger and then apply to your face. As you apply it you will notice how it melts gently into your skin. In fact regular use of this will lightly exfoliate your skin, brighten and smooth out the texture as well as stimulating oodles of collagen. Next apply your dermalogica moisturiser.

As it’s a powder and I find it a bit messy to use myself I prefer to mix in a pea size amount with my moisturiser, to give my whole face a brightening collagen boost and still does give excellent results.

Vitamins For Skin Care – Why Do You Need Them and What They Do

Vitamins in Dermalogica

Dermalogica Vitamins

You Need Topical Vitamins For Skin Health

Have you ever wondered why we need vitamins in skin care? I mean we can buy supplements of vitamins and they are in the food that we eat. Why should we be bothered in investing in good vitamins for your face? I am going to explain what vitamins do to help improve your skin, which vitamins to look out for and which dermalogica products have vitamins in them.

Why Do We Need Vitamins in Skin Care?

Vitamins are used in skin care products to help protect the skin from free radical damage, aging and environmental damage. But just any old vitamins will not do! Vitamins are complex, not only do you have to look at the type of vitamin used but also the percentage and if it is stable and can penetrate the skin, for example.

Vitamins also work better in groups rather than just individual vitamins in skin care, when choosing skin care with vitamins look for vitamins C and E together, not just E. Today many people take vitamin supplements for there health, this is great, however you cannot expect these vitamins what you take internally really help improve your skin. Vitamin supplements will always go to your body’s major organs first, and what is left (which would be hardly anything) will go to your skin that is why to maximise your skin’s health you need to apply topical vitamins.

When looking at vitamins in skin care not only do they have to be able to penetrate the skin, they must be stable enough so they do not lose there potency and effect. Vitamins are wonderful addition to skin care because they protect your skin against free radicals. Free radicals cause damage to your skin’s cells, allowing them to mutate and this sets off a chain reaction causing the cell to be broken down by the body and this causes the break down of your collagen (allowing wrinkles to form), breaking down your moisture and hydration (hylauronic acid content) and also reduces the elasticity in your skin. In fact free radicals cause damage to just about everything in the cell. Free radicals are caused mainly by smoking, pollution and UV rays.

Vitamins That Will Protect Your Skin Used in Dermalogica

You can see why vitamins in skincare are very important and every time you apply them you are getting instant relief to your skin. A fantastic dermalogica moisturiser which has losts of vitamins and antioxidants is Intensive Moisture Balance – it has vitamins A,C,E Ginko biloba, Grape Seed Extract, Super Oxide Dismutase and Green Tea, all of these ingredients are fantastic for premature aging. Super Oxide Diemutase is a naturally occuring substance in our bodies that prevents the free radical Super Oxide. This is one of the worst free radicals that cause premature aging in the skin – it’s great to know dermalogica use super oxide dismutase in Intensive Moisture Balance.

Sunscreens are also another way to gain extra protection by the inclusion of antioxidants in them such as dermalogica’s Extra Rich Face Block which not only has it’s UV Smart Booster Technology, but Two Collagen Regenerating Peptides, extra hydration from Hylauronic Acid and SPF30 protection – another product I think is fantastic.

Vitamins Can Be A Double-Edged Sword

It’s great how vitamins protect our skin from free radical damage, however not a lot of people realise that vitamins cannot protect our skin from free radicals forever, in fact after a vitamin has been attacked by a free radical for so long, it actually turns itself into a free radical! One way to helping to prevent this is look for vitamins that are together in a skin care product, let me explain…. Vitamin E is a great vitamin it’s very healing and hydrating for the skin, however after being attacked by free radicals (only 50 times) it oxidises and turns into a free radical itself. Scientists have discovered that by using vitamins E and C together this helps prevent this. Vitamin C recharges or boosts Vitamin E, preventing it from turning into a free radical – Amazing!

There are many vitamins to consider and what they do are unique so I am not going to go into them there in this post, just remember that you need to inlcude topical vitamins in your skin care routine to help prevent premature aging and protect your skin.
