Dermalogica’s newly updated sensitive skin range has been updated and is about to be released across Australia. I am so excited about this new ultracalming range because this updated version is even better than the previous range, which I think works brilliantly. Dermalogica and the researchers of  The International Dermal Institute have been studying the effects of sensitive skin over a few years and this new ultra calming update incorporates all there latest findings. Lets have a look at the new products and how they have improved upon the old sensitive skin range. 

What’s New in Dermalogica’s Ultracalming?

Dermalogica have designed a new sensitive skin complex called, you guessed it! Ultracalming Complex, getting rid of their older Anti-ozonate Complex, with new ingredients and new technologies and new research. The new ultracalming complex uses powerful ingredients to help control current inflammation and prevent inflammation but also prevent neurogenic and immunogenic responses. 

What are neurogenic and immunogenic responses?

A Neurogenic Inflammation Response is triggered by your immune system by the nervous system. When your skin is under attack and the irritant activates the nerve sensors, it causes substances to be released into the skin causing redness, itchiness and soreness. 

An Immunogenic inflammation Response is what happens to your skin when it’s under assault, basically alerting your skin’s cells to fight off the unwanted invader because of this your skin triggers an allergic reaction and can cause redness, soreness and itchiness. 

The UltraCalming Range

Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Range works! Each product has been specifically designed to the triggers of sensitivity and flare ups. The range in general helps 

  • To calm inflammation on your skin
  • Soothe any redness, irritation or itchiness you may experience
  • Control the effects of the Neurogenic and Immunogenic Responses
  • Reinforce The Skin’s Barrier Layer and surface lipids.
  • Hydrate the skin’s tissues and stimulate new ceramides and cholesterol formation.

The range consists of new products to the range and also updated products. Dermalogica has reformulated the popular Barrier Repair which now include the UltraCalming Complex and they have also reformulated Soothing Protection Spray (and this is now called UltraCalming Mist) and UltraCalming Cleanser, be on the look out for more information from me and my experiences on these new formulations. 


The New Exciting Products are UltraCalming Serum and UltraCalming Relief Masque! 

The UltraCalming Complex is in every one of the UltraCalming Products and it actually is fantastic for controlling inflammation including the neuro inflammation and immuno inflammation! The actual ingredient that helps to control neurogenic inflammation is Red Hogweed extract, the complex also consists various other ingredients that provide serious relief for sensitive skin. My absolute favourite has to be the UltraCalming Serum, not only does this serum have the highest concentration of the UltraCalming Complex, it also has an amazing new peptide that is so clever, it actually restores the skin so it’s “less reactive”. In fact every body should have this product so when they get any irritation they can apply this light-weight serum to calm the skin and reduce any flare ups. 


The Ambulance Masque – Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Relief Masque 

This masque is a very powerful treatment providing relief for sensitive skin, it uses the power of colloidal oatmeal along with the UltraCalming Complex and anti-inflammatories that work together to deliver a cocktail of ingredients to the skin giving immediate relief and restoring the balance of the skin – A must have masque if you are sensitive or have the occasional sensitivity outbreak.

It was about time that dermalogica came out with some excellent men’s products, listening to my client’s and from my own observations with my husband, men are becoming more aware that they should be looking after there skin. Most men start by using there partners skin care range before ever venturing out and buying skin care. Thanks to dermalogica there is now a wonderful range of skin care made for men, however trying it out myself – I can say I am a little jealous! The products feel, smell and are fantastic, they are a really good thought out range for the male skin type and the prices are really good value.

Dermalogica’s Easy Skin Care Routine

Dermalogica I think have it right with this Shave Range, it really is quick, simple and easy to use and becuase of this most males will use it. They have a wonderful scrub called Daily Clean Scrub, I tried this and I have to say I find it one of the best scrubs out there, I even like it better than Skin Prep Scrub! The great thing about this scrub is is can actually be used daily on male skin’s and really gives the skin a good clean!

If your man suffers with a heavy beard or has really very sensitive skin then using the pre-shave guard before applying your shaving product actually buffers the skin and softens the hairs, this actually helps reduce any irritation from razors – my son-in-law loves this as he suffers with sensitive skin from shaving.

Choose Your Way To Shave

In this Dermalogica Shave range there is actually three ways you can shave the skin. Men have a choice of soothing shave cream, invigorating shave gel and the close shave oil. Now being a dermalogica fanatic I have actually tried all of these on my skin to see what they feel like and I can tell you that if you suffer with sensitive skin or dry skin you will love the soothing shave cream, it’s so creamy and very hydrating and calming to the skin. The invigorating shave gel says what it is – it is invigorating, it really freshens up your skin, fells very cool but soothes at the same time, it has a foaming action, kind of like Special Cleansing Gel. Invigorating Shave is great for oily skin conditions. The close shave oil is a strange little product that men either love or hate, because it takes a little getting use too, but if you want a really close shave then this is your must have product to use and especially great if you have a goatee, beard or moustache. This shaving product works by acting as a buffer between your razor and skin with the use of silicone’s.

What To Do After Shaving

With a nice cleaned, shaved appearance, don’t stop here in your skin care routine, finish it off with dermalogica’s Post-Shave Balm – again I have tried this and it is brilliant, this is the product what I sneakily use from time to time just because it feels so good! But it actually lightly moisturises the skin, even helps to control oily shine and helps reduce ingrown hairs which can be a problem for a guy. I found this instantly soothes, it would be brilliant for men’s skin straight after shave it, it really is great.

Dermalogica even have a wonderful moisturiser for men to use daily. It is called Daily Defense Block, it has an SPF15 in it, it’s very light-weight it reminds me sort of  in between active moist and skin smoothing cream texture. It helps to fight against ingrown hairs, has antioxidants and vitamins in it, plus uses dermalogica’s UV smart booster technology. Every man should use this daily moisturiser it really is good at protecting and hydrating the skin.

I love the way my skin feels after using dermalogica’s daily microfoliant in my morning cleansing routine. My skin really feels smooth, clean, bright and polished. However you have to be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking that daily microfoliant is the only exfoliator you should be using on your skin. So many clients come into my skin care centres totally in love with daily microfoliant and fail to use a deeper exfoliation technique and when I explain to clients that this is a “microfoliant” and it was never designed to be used as their total exfoliation – clients are surprised because there skin feels so good after use.

Daily microfoliant “gently” polishes the skin, that is why it is even suitable for sensitive or acne skin types, it wasn’t formulated to go deeper than the very surface of your skin. Therefore we need an exfoliant once or twice a week that will penetrate deeper to correct concerns and provide a healthy environment to achieve beautiful clear, dewy skin. Depending on your skin condition determines what exfoliator you should use. This is why you really should get your skin checked by an expert and I do really mean expert because only then you can be assured you are going to get the correct and best results for your skin.

So many times when people drop into our salons and I listen to what they are using and what they have been told to use I feel like “screaming” as they have obviously not been advised correctly. The problem of not being prescribed the correct product is that you would probably never have the benefit of using that product range again because you were so disappointed with the results and annoyed at the money you have wasted. You will find in a good dermalogica skin care centre that also has excellent ongoing education system for their therapists it will carry numerous professional exfoliants in their treatment rooms.

In my skin care centres we have at least twenty types of exfoliation techniques that we can use because we want to boost your exfoliation safely and give you that beautiful glowing skin that we all want to achieve.

Daily microfoliant needs to be kept in a dry place so don’t keep it in the shower or it will become damp and yucky. Place it outside the shower and when you are ready open the shower door and quickly pour about the size of a teaspoon into your wet hands and keep the top shut!

I hope I haven’t put you off using or thinking of using daily microfoliant as it is a great product, in fact it is dermalogica’s top seller! just don’t rely on this as your only exfoliator and make sure you use it everyday to get the best results for your skin.
